About The Position

The High School Robotics Coach - FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is responsible for overseeing the robotics program, which includes teaching basic design and building concepts, programming fundamentals, and troubleshooting strategies. The coach will supervise scholar teams through their strategy, design, build, and competition process, facilitating regular meetings during the build season and off-season. This role involves coordinating logistics for meetings and competitions, registering for and attending events, and collaborating with district staff to manage supplies and program development. The coach will also train scholars in safety and the use of tools and equipment, and maintain communication for recruitment and team setup.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
Able to coordinate scholar training sessions.
Ability to multitask and make independent decisions.
Able to develop working relationships with scholar, staff, parents, and community.
Able to conduct safety and training sessions related to using tools and equipment.
Able to work with a diverse scholar population, and within a culturally and economically diverse environment.
Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job.

Previous robotics or similar coaching experience.

Responsibilities

Teach basic design and building concepts, programming fundamentals, and troubleshooting strategies.
Supervise scholar teams through their strategy, design, build, and competition process.
Facilitate at least 4 meetings a week during the build season (January-April), and potentially additional meetings.
Facilitate meetings at least twice a month during the off-season (September – December, May) for guided practice, teambuilding, and program development.
Coordinate logistics for team meetings and competitions with the district Robotics Program liaison.
Register and attend at least 2 FRC qualifier events with scholars.
Collaborate with District staff and robotics program liaison to purchase and maintain supplies, collect data for program evaluation, and provide feedback for program development.
Participate in trainings as needed to provide adequate support to scholars.
Maintain responsive and timely communication during the summer to coordinate equipment purchases, recruitment efforts, and other activity related to the setup of teams.
Train scholars in safety and use of tools and equipment.
Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the school robotics team.
