About The Position

General Motors is hiring a Robotics AI Strategy & Program Lead to own cross-functional initiatives spanning AI research, robotics engineering, data infrastructure, and manufacturing operations. The role combines strategy, program management, analytics, and hands-on use of AI tools, translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure work is strategic, measurable, and deliverable—from fast-turnaround experiments to multi-year platform programs. The lead will partner with leadership on Robotics AI strategy and decision-making; manage roadmaps, dependencies, risks, milestones, and operating rhythms; analyze data and build dashboards; and design AI-assisted workflows and agents. They will work closely with AI researchers, engineers, product managers, data teams, manufacturing teams, and external vendors, while coordinating across organizational functions to remove blockers and move initiatives forward. The position is based five days a week onsite in Warren, Michigan, within GM’s AI Product Management and Strategy organization, and includes regular exposure to senior leadership and external technology partners.

Requirements

  • MBA with previous engineering or technical experience, or a master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in one or more of management consulting or corporate strategy, product management or technical program management, or data science or data analytics.
  • Meaningful experience in AI, machine learning, or robotics, such as robotics AI, applied ML, computer vision, or intelligent automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex, ambiguous cross-functional programs with multiple parallel workstreams.
  • Strong strategic thinking and storytelling skills, including framing problems, structuring options, and communicating with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to write SQL and use Python or R for analysis.
  • Experience building dashboards with tools such as Looker or Power BI.
  • Experience working with Databricks and similar data platforms.
  • Fluency with GenAI tools, including prompt engineering and using copilots or assistants in daily workflows, and experience designing or orchestrating AI-assisted workflows or agents.
  • Experience with modern collaboration and delivery tools such as Jira and low- or no-code platforms such as Power Apps or AppSheet.
  • Ability to communicate technical details to researchers and roboticists and present synthesized insights to senior non-technical executives.
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration and influence skills, with the ability to create clarity and momentum.
  • Experience working directly with technical teams such as AI researchers, AI engineers, roboticists, and data engineers, and understanding their work well enough to track progress, identify risks, and provide hands-on support.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work in robotics, robotics AI, or physical AI systems, especially in manufacturing, industrial, or logistics environments.
  • Experience operating at the intersection of research and production and balancing exploration with delivery.
  • Background in data-driven decision-making, experimentation, and KPI design in complex technical domains.
  • Experience defining and instrumenting metrics for AI or robotics systems, such as reliability, coverage, cycle time, throughput, or data quality.
  • Experience with storyboarding and narrative design for presentations or memos.
  • Track record of rapidly learning technical domains and tools and helping teams adopt them.
  • Experience driving programs through enterprise processes such as security reviews, procurement, and vendor onboarding, and removing organizational blockers.

Responsibilities

  • Own cross-functional projects from problem framing and strategy through execution, measurement, and iteration.
  • Program-manage multi-team initiatives with clear milestones, owners, and success metrics.
  • Build and maintain program roadmaps, dependency maps, and risk registers; identify and resolve blockers.
  • Drive operating rhythms such as standups, reviews, and steering forums across AI, robotics, and manufacturing teams.
  • Coordinate with IT, Purchasing, vendors, Finance, HR, and other partners to move programs forward.
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, including short-turnaround deliverables and long-horizon programs.
  • Partner with leadership to define and refine Robotics AI strategy, including problem selection, sequencing, and success metrics.
  • Develop narratives and storyboards connecting technical work to business outcomes and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Prepare executive-ready presentations and decision documents for senior leaders, including SVP-level audiences.
  • Translate technical options into structured trade-off frameworks for decision-makers.
  • Define analytical questions and telemetry requirements; analyze data using SQL and Python or R, and turn findings into actionable insights.
  • Build and maintain dashboards tracking program KPIs, model and system performance, deployment health, and operational metrics.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and platform teams to use Databricks and other analytics infrastructure.
  • Design and orchestrate GenAI-powered workflows and agents to automate appropriate analysis, reporting, and operational tasks.
  • Help the team learn and adopt AI, analytics, dashboarding, and tracking tools.
  • Act as a technical partner to AI researchers, robotics engineers, and data engineers, and align data collection, labeling, evaluation, and deployment work with program goals.
  • Collaborate with AI product managers to connect user needs, technical capabilities, and manufacturing deployment constraints.
  • Engage with external AI, robotics, and data tooling partners and vendors.
  • Explore and help adopt useful tools, techniques, and methodologies, including GenAI, agents, analytics, and low-code platforms.
  • Improve program management, measurement, and communication practices across the Robotics AI organization.
  • Communicate proactively with leaders and stakeholders about risks, decisions, and progress, and respond promptly to questions and requests.
