About The Position

The general purpose of the Robotic Welder Operator is to operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal work pieces. This role involves setting up, operating, and tending robotic welding machines to join or bond components for fabricating metal products or assemblies. The operator will also be responsible for preparing metal surfaces, performing post-weld grinding and cleanup, maintaining safe work habits, and ensuring the quality of finished work pieces through precise measurements. Additionally, the role requires monitoring machine operations, identifying potential problems, and communicating with supervisors regarding any malfunctions or production errors. Cleaning of machines, tooling, and parts is also a key responsibility. All tasks must be performed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies regarding safety and workplace behavior.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints.
  • Ability to complete necessary welder set-up procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to frequently stand and use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body.
  • Ability to regularly reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, or tend robotic welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
  • Select, position, align, and bolt jigs, holding fixtures, guides, or stops onto machines, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Prepare metal surfaces or workpieces, using hand-operated equipment, such as grinders, cutters, or drills.
  • Perform post weld grinding and weld cleanup to meet visual and esthetic standards.
  • Maintain safe work habits and a work area abiding by all safety policies.
  • Lift and load work pieces into the machine.
  • Activate manual part clamps to secure work pieces.
  • Use control mechanisms to operate machines or processes (not including vehicles).
  • Review blueprints to determine finished work pieces dimensions.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources and provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates.
  • Identify when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with machine operation, such as checking lubrication and cooling, or recognizing operational issues.
  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
  • Clean machines, tooling, or parts, using solvents or solutions, water and rags.
  • Perform all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments.
