About The Position

A Mid to Senior level Robotics/Automation Engineer to join the BIW Manufacturing team, focused on sustaining and improving robotic systems within the Bodyshop. This role will be highly visible within the plant, supporting daily operations and driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency. The Robotics Engineer will be a key technical resource, working alongside production, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure stable and reliable operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, is required.
  • 5+ years of robotics & automation experience, preferably in high-volume automotive manufacturing.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with Fanuc robots and robotic applications in welding, material handling, and dispensing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with vision systems and adhesive dispense systems (IAS).
  • Proven ability to analyze issues, make quick decisions, and implement solutions under production pressure.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, PFMEA, Control Plans, and process poke-yoke principles.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience with Process Simulate, RobCAD, or other offline programming tools is a plus
  • Experience with Rockwell controls and conveyance systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma background.
  • Ability to develop robotics standards and protocols for the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily production by troubleshooting and resolving robotic issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Teach, adjust, and optimize TCPs, Frames, Loads, and DCS (Safety Configuration).
  • Configure and maintain robot I/O, communication protocols, and interfaces with peripheral equipment.
  • Sustain and improve dispense systems, vision systems, and bead detection systems within Bodyshop applications.
  • Continuously improve cycle time, throughput, and reliability through robot path and program optimization.
  • Implement running changes and validate modifications with minimal disruption to production.
  • Partner with Quality, Dimensional, and Maintenance teams to investigate failures, conduct root cause analysis, and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Document and maintain robot programs, backups, and change history.
  • Train and mentor maintenance technicians and junior engineers on robot troubleshooting and standards.
  • Actively participate in PFMEAs, control plans, poke-yoke solutions, and continuous improvement projects.
