Roaster
About The Position
The Roaster is responsible for operating all equipment in the Roasting Department. This role involves roasting and blending coffees to specifications, following blending procedures, learning safe operation of all equipment, understanding roast terminology and levels, and performing cleaning and maintenance of equipment. The Roaster will identify roasted and green coffees by sight, recognize green and roasted defects, perform sample roasts to proper roast levels, and properly set up coffee tasting for evaluation. Additionally, the Roaster will identify and describe cup characteristics of roasted coffee using standard cupping procedures and operate all equipment in the Roasting Department.
Requirements
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to use knowledge, creativity and initiative in recommending or implementing improvements in efficiency or safety aspects of the work area or machines
- Excellent reading and writing skills.
- Ability to calculate mathematical numbers for data entries on required process monitors, quality specifications, and use of computer for data entries
