The Roaster is responsible for operating all equipment in the Roasting Department. This role involves roasting and blending coffees to specifications, following blending procedures, and learning the safe operation of all equipment, roast terminology, roast levels, and cleaning maintenance of equipment. The Roaster will identify roasted and green coffees by sight, recognize green and roasted defects, perform sample roasts to proper roast levels, and properly set up coffee tasting for evaluation. Additionally, the Roaster will identify and describe cup characteristics of roasted coffee using standard cupping procedures and operate all equipment in the Roasting Department.
