About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal Engineer to focus on the design of traffic signals and/or roadway lighting for transportation facilities. The successful candidate will collaborate with technical staff to produce preliminary and detailed traffic/intersection design drawings, estimates, specifications, and proposals. This role also involves assisting in the preparation of reports detailing the nature, status, and results of design or study assignments.

Requirements

Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic/Civil Engineering
3+ years relevant experience in intersection/traffic signal design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment
Must have or be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario
Must be proficient with AutoCAD and Microstation
Proficient with AGI 32
Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 15, 5, & 7), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), RP-8 (latest version) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada
Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various complex projects with large size and scope

Nice To Haves

Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset
Experience performing site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration
MTO Major Electrical RAQS qualified is an asset
Experience working on MTO Roadway Lighting projects

Responsibilities

Contribute to the successful design, production, coordination, and management of Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal projects.
Coordinate with Utility and Roadway agencies on technical aspects, developing traffic signal/intersection and roadway illumination designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation, including layouts, equipment details, and photometrics.
Assist in developing deliverables such as wiring diagrams, power calculations, and Electrical Engineering designs compliant with ESA codes or relevant acts/standards, as directed by other Electrical Engineers/Managers.
Perform utility coordination duties related to roadway illumination and traffic signal projects, including preparing technical reports, tender documentation, and providing field support (commissioning, Traffic signal turn-on, and site inspection).
Verify or validate that Engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures, and sound engineering practices.
Review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs.
Ensure project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality, including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports.
