About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform all related repairs and/or maintenance to county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment. This role involves working in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others. Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
3 years minimum of prior related work experience.
Minimum requirement of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” with Air Brake Endorsement.
Acquire TTC/IMOT Certification within 6 months of hire date.
Position is subject to the mandatory Department of Transportation Drug Testing Program, which involves random drug testing.
Ability to work from a general outline of duties and responsibilities.
Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of the use of heavy equipment.
Ability to work in a responsive environment where co-workers or citizens bring problems for resolution; ability to determine problems and create individual solutions for issues.
Ability to work with less than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same activities.
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis; reporting on the accomplishment of specific departmental goals and tasks; OR operating or repairing heavy equipment (bulldozers, cranes, graders).

Responsibilities

Perform all related repairs and/or maintenance to county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment.
Assist in road and bridge repair and shoulder work using various equipment, asphalt, concrete, or other materials.
Cut brush and move chip debris off rights-of-way.
Use mow-trim, blower, rake, machete, chainsaw, pole saw, buzz-bar, and chipper.
Mow grass; cut brush off rights-of-way.
Dig trenches and drains, vacuum storm drains, clean injection wells.
Clean up construction debris and work areas, pick up and remove trash.
Repair and replace damaged or destroyed guard rails.
Patch asphalt.
Weed around signs and guard rails.
Trim and cut trees.
Check and maintain tools and equipment periodically to ensure proper, safe operation.
Perform general maintenance for the County yard and equipment.
Assist in creating signs for all County roadways.
Assist in providing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) in work areas.
Drive County vehicles, transport equipment, and operate equipment in a safe manner.
Maintain ALL required qualifications, licenses, and certificates.
Complete appropriate paperwork in the performance of daily duties.
Keep work area clean and organized; use safety cones and signage when required.
Attend required training and safety meetings; use appropriate safety equipment.
Stripe roadway, repaint stop bars, and crosswalks.
Work extended hours during hurricanes, county emergencies, and other natural disasters.
Be ON CALL during hurricane season.
Perform other related job duties as assigned.
In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
