About The Position

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties to build, repair, clear and maintain Iron County Roadways and other related duties. Operate heavy equipment to include backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, rollers, lowboy, trucks, grader, distributer, dozer, snowplow, mower, sprayer and other equipment used in transporting vehicles and equipment to job sites. Build and maintain county roadways. Remove snow in mountain and valley areas and prepare for emergency flood control, 24 hours per day. Assist in road repair by chip sealing, crack sealing and seal coating. Install, repair and maintain road signage. Maintain equipment by performing preventive maintenance on equipment, changing all oil and filters on a regular basis, repair truck tires and grease required areas on a regular basis and other mechanical duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year experience with the operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment
  • Valid UTAH CDL - Class A License
  • Complete physical as required to maintain UDOT certification
  • Knowledge of mechanical applications
  • Knowledge of road construction methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of work zone regulations
  • Skill in operating hand tools
  • Skill in operating heavy equipment
  • Skill in operating road construction machinery
  • Skill in basic mathematics
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to work unsupervised and accept responsibility
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public
  • Ability to use independent judgment
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to pass an extensive pre-employment background screening
