About The Position

The Roadmaster directly supervises employees and activities in the Maintenance of Way Department. This role leads the Region’s day-to-day maintenance and repair operations, overseeing hourly technical craft employees and department supervisors. The Roadmaster works with other departments to support efficient railroad operations and ensures the department meets its track, signal, and capital-project service goals. The position is responsible for staffing, safety compliance, records, and controlling maintenance and related costs. Salary is $106,000 plus bonus.

Requirements

Five years of related experience in the rail industry.
Prior experience in a supervisory role.
Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, prioritize, promote safe work habits, and manage budgetary constraints.
GED or high school diploma, five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license.

Associate’s degree in Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and repair activities of the Maintenance of Way Department.
Lead, direct, and manage the Region’s day-to-day Maintenance of Way activities.
Supervise hourly technical craft employees and all supervisors in the department.
Interface with other departments to support efficient and organized railroad operations.
Manage the department’s track, signal, and capital-project service goals.
Fill vacancies in compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
Enforce safety procedures, including required PPE use, and maintain required records.
Monitor and control maintenance and other department-related costs.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
