Under basic supervision, of the Secondary Roads Superintendent and Crew Leaders, the Roads Maintenance Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain secondary roads to ensure clear and safe roads for travelers. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performing manual labor necessary to conduct maintenance and construction projects including, but not limited to; patching asphalt and concrete roads; laying pipe and tile; building drainage structures; mowing and clearing rights-of-way; spreading rock for gravel roads; digging and cleaning ditches; performing shoulder construction and maintenance; routing and sealing cracks, repairing, maintaining and building bridges and culverts; replacing road signs. Removing snow, ice, and debris from roads, shoulders and bridge decks. Assisting in surveying; participating in erosion control activities; collecting trash in road right-of-ways; removing dead animal carcasses from traveled portions of the roadway; assisting with flood clean up; erecting and disassembling snow fences. Operating a variety of equipment and machinery used in maintenance and construction projects to include heavy truck, router, air compressor, jack hammer, concrete saw, chainsaw, wood chipper, skid loader, end loader, lawn mower, excavator or dozer, scissor and aerial lift, boom/brush mower, hauling oversized loads, tanker truck, jetter, paving screed, boom truck, sheep foot. Performing regular inspections and maintenance on assigned equipment on a consistent basis to ensure safety and operability; applying grease to fittings; topping of fluid levels; changing light bulbs; washing trucks. Demonstrating the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy. Performing related duties as assigned.
