About The Position

The core responsibilities of this role will be focused on supporting the Facility Process Engineer at 5 existing RNG Facilities and gaining Engineering knowledge and skills. The RNG Engineering Intern will be focused on improving Facility Documentation related to Process Safety Management programs currently in effect at all Facilities. This role reports in person at Clean Energy Headquarters in Newport Beach. This role may require travel from time to time to support site documentation.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering at qualified post-secondary institution.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, third party consultants, etc.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as mass balance, probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD softwares including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct plant walkdowns and field verifications to compare physical equipment and systems against engineering documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, equipment lists, and control narratives).
  • Identify, document, and track discrepancies in equipment tags, instrumentation, line routing, and system configuration.
  • Assist in updating and redlining P&IDs and other technical drawings to reflect accurate, current field conditions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of equipment lists, including updates for recent and planned engineering changes.
  • Participate in engineering and Management of Change (MOC) discussions to understand system modifications and documentation requirements.
  • Review control narratives and identify gaps between documented control logic and actual plant operation, including alarms, interlocks, and sequences.
  • Assist in drafting updated engineering documentation under supervision, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all sources.
  • Collaborate with operators and supervisors to gather insights and validate system understanding through interviews and field engagement.
  • Develop operator-focused training materials, including unit operation modules, visual aids, and troubleshooting guidance.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) program requirements by assisting with documentation, tracking, and training initiatives.
  • Perform cross-document reviews to ensure alignment between drawings, equipment lists, and control narratives.
  • Track project tasks, compile findings, and contribute to progress updates and final presentations for engineering and operations leadership.
  • Assist in preparing final documentation packages and summaries to support long-term operational use and onboarding of future personnel.
