This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department at Scotland Memorial Hospital, offering a full-time role with various shifts. The role requires adherence to the nursing process, including age-specific competency, and active involvement of family and significant others. The RN will be responsible for triaging patients, performing comprehensive assessments, and documenting findings. Key duties include executing nursing actions and interventions according to established plans and policies, facilitating continuity of care through coordination with healthcare team members, and evaluating treatment effectiveness. The position also emphasizes promoting patient dignity and privacy, providing a supportive environment, and delivering care in a non-judgmental manner. The RN will utilize information management systems, implement teaching interventions, and demonstrate competency in nursing care actions. Medication administration, including IV fluids, must be performed according to hospital policy with attention to safety techniques. The role requires accepting responsibility in emergency situations, functioning appropriately under stress, and managing patients receiving IV conscious sedation. The RN will evaluate and modify the plan of care based on patient responses and outcomes, re-prioritize care as needed, and assess patient/family preparedness for discharge. Open and timely communication with patients, families, and team members is crucial for effective therapeutic interventions. This includes communicating with physicians, nurses, and other personnel, utilizing communication channels per hospital policy, acting as a liaison to patients and families, and providing accurate reports for admitted or transferred patients. The RN will positively represent the hospital and give accurate reports to oncoming shift members. Communication with paramedics during radio contact is also a requirement. Maintaining a safe environment for associates and patients is essential, including identifying fall risks, maintaining a clean environment, correcting hazards, and utilizing the patient ID bracelet system. Adherence to departmental standards of practice, continuous learning, and willingness to assist other staff are expected. The RN will also demonstrate management and leadership skills, assist in orienting new personnel, delegate responsibilities appropriately, function independently, and contribute to cost-effective resource management.
