About The Position

The Controlled Access Unit patient population includes those in custody or incarcerated. Patients in this unit may include those in general medical surgical care, pre-operative and post-operative patients. Patients are shackled to the bed (1 leg) with a minimum of 1 guard per patient 24/7. RNs are always accompanied by 1 deputy for any patient interactions. This is a safe place to work with a 24/7 available lieutenant on site, plus a captain and major on day shift.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • 1 Year RN Experience

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizing, coordinating, and delegating all care touchpoints for patients.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate direct patient care.
  • Maintaining and advocating a safe environment for everyone.
  • Monitoring and engaging with patients, families, and appropriate care team members concerning significant events, patient condition changes, or patient questions and concerns.
  • Preventing and treating wounds.
  • Monitoring and executing Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
  • Ensuring continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
  • Advising and consulting with supervisor when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
  • Initiating patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum of care services.
  • Assisting others without being asked to contribute to the team.
