Under the general supervision of the Director and Clinical Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing quality patient care using the nursing process, directing other nursing staff, and managing the operations of an assigned unit during their shift. This role may require the employee to be on call and work overtime as needed by the hospital. The position involves performing initial patient assessments, developing and updating care plans, documenting patient care, coordinating bedside care, administering medications and IV fluids, communicating with physicians and families, supervising patient care given by nursing personnel, and ensuring continuity of care between shifts and departments. The RN also plays a role in patient and family education, discharge planning, checking emergency equipment, and potentially serving as a primary caregiver, team leader, or charge nurse. Additionally, the role includes assisting with the orientation of new personnel, communicating unit information to other shifts and managers, and collaborating with external agencies when necessary. The RN is also responsible for ensuring the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
