About The Position

The RN, Weekend assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the area of all assigned psychiatric patients. The RN coordinates, directs and participates as an effective interdisciplinary team member. This role involves maintaining professional knowledge, ensuring quality of care, protecting patients and employees through adherence to safety protocols, and documenting patient care services. The Registered Nurse may provide direct oversight of the GN, LPN, Technical Partner, ALS Technician, Nurse Extern and Unit Clerks, including conducting comprehensive assessments and initiating the interprofessional plan of care. The role ensures patient care aligns with the PA Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies. Responsibilities include processing psychiatric emergencies, managing agitated patients, administering and educating on psychotropic medications, and conducting group therapy sessions.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

Knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required.
Act 33 with renewal.
Act 34 with renewal.
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
One (1) to two (2) years’ experience in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for assigned psychiatric patients.

Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
Identify patient care requirements by establishing rapport with patients and their families.
Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
Promote patient's independence by establishing care goals and teaching patients/families about their condition, medications, and self-care skills.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in continuous quality improvement.
Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories.
Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders.
Provide direct oversight of GN, LPN, Technical Partner, ALS Technician, Nurse Extern and Unit Clerks, including initial comprehensive assessment and initiation of the interprofessional plan of care.
Ensure patient care is in accordance with the PA Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
Process psychiatric emergencies, including assessment, collaboration with psychiatrists, processing commitments, and referring patients to appropriate treatment facilities.
Provide for patient safety in compliance with hospital and nursing department policies.
Orchestrate management of agitated patients with other staff members.
Assess escalating patient behavior and take appropriate action.
Update crisis intervention skills on a yearly basis.
Ensure patient belongings are searched for potentially harmful items.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of psychotropic medications, maintain department protocols, administer, monitor, and document efficacy, side effects, and patient compliance.
Provide patient/family education for prescribed medications.
Conduct group therapy sessions, including medication groups, support groups, and educational groups.
Serve as an information/referral source for families.
Act as a facilitator of group sessions.
Provide patients with individualized educational materials.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
