RN Virtual ICU

Corewell Health•Grand Rapids, MI

About The Position

The RN Virtual ICU (VICU RN) is a technology-based nursing role requiring strong communication, mentoring, and critical-thinking skills. The position requires a high degree of independence, effective use of available resources, collaboration with other professions, and a customer-service approach that builds trusting relationships with everyone involved in patient care. The VICU RN monitors ECG rhythms and pressure waveforms; thoroughly assesses patients using the electronic health record and other means; anticipates steps to reduce the risk of patient decline; and uses high-quality cameras to apply nursing physical-assessment skills. The RN communicates frequently with bedside care providers and the VICU provider, mentors and supports staff facing unfamiliar tasks or situations, and offers an independent perspective to identify differences in practice and improve the program and clinical practice. Conflict-resolution skills are also important to help maintain trusting relationships across the care team. Under the ANA scope of practice, the RN uses the nursing process to provide professional care, incorporating patient- and family-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. Under the direction of the Nurse Leader and according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, the RN provides quality care, recognizes the effect of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes, includes patient and family input and goals in care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.
