About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Urology department, located at HC Heart Center MOB 504 Redmond Rd. The role involves providing patient care, developing and implementing care plans, administering medications, performing therapeutic measures, and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions. The RN will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, demonstrating professional and leadership qualities, and adhering to hospital policies and procedures. The position requires a commitment to patient-focused care and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The RN will be expected to handle various patient age groups and may be exposed to hazardous substances and life-threatening diseases. Specific lifting requirements and the use of patient handling equipment are detailed.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in State of Illinois
  • Evidence of CPR course completion
  • Clinically appropriate skills
  • Courteous and professional interpersonal skills
  • Communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer keyboard functions
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Graduate from accredited school of nursing
  • Board Certification by 12/31/2015 or within two years of hire

Responsibilities

  • Patient care needs are assessed in a systematic manner in order to develop a plan of care considering age-specific needs
  • Interviews and obtains history utilizing direct and indirect sources of data.
  • Assesses patients in a systematic way and documents appropriately
  • Identifies learning needs of patient/family
  • Identifies discharge needs
  • Anticipates and identifies changes in patient condition and takes appropriate action.
  • Develop an individualized plan of care based on physical, psychosocial and age specific patient assessment
  • Initiates a plan of care for each patient and establishes practices for patient care
  • Involves patient/family in plan of care.
  • Identifies hospital and community resources appropriate for planning care and discharge
  • Incorporates range and treatment needed by patient.
  • Identifies need for and participates in patient care conferences
  • Initiates collaboration of referrals with other members of the health care team for the purpose of coordinating direct patient care efforts and / or operating as the patient’s advocate.
  • Appropriate nursing interventions are performed based on the assessed patient needs
  • Administers medications according to approved policy and procedure and physician order.
  • Performs therapeutic measures prescribed by physician
  • Issues implementation of physician’s orders
  • Performs skills identified on skills inventory
  • Provides patient/family teaching
  • Delegates to and supervises appropriate caregivers.
  • Maintains accurate, pertinent and complete records of nursing observations and interventions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Effectiveness of nursing interventions is evaluated
  • Modifies the plan of care to reflect changing outcomes and needs
  • Analyses the effectiveness of nursing interventions
  • Participates in quality efforts through CQI programs and projects
  • A therapeutic and safe environment is monitored and maintained according to hospital departmental and unit policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Provides a safe environment based age and development status of patient population
  • Initiates safety measures based on patient assessment.
  • Evaluates environmental safety and reports any unsafe conditions
  • Anticipates emergencies and takes appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates proper knowledge and use of patient related equipment
  • Ensures a clean, well stocked, orderly unit environment
