The RN Unit Supervisor is responsible for performing job duties with general supervision and regularly supervising and managing others in the performance of their positions. This role requires strong problem-solving abilities, budget management, and a focus on staff development, including selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, competency evaluation, and scheduling based on patient acuity. The supervisor supports the Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit goals. They must possess outstanding relationship-building skills, particularly with physicians, and maintain a patient-focused approach committed to the highest levels of quality, safety, and customer service. Accountability for achieving patient satisfaction targets (PressGaney and HCAHPS) is essential. The role involves supporting process improvement in operations and quality, understanding accreditation and certification requirements, and communicating effectively and persuasively. Participation in hospital and department committees, staff development, and leading by example with professional behavior are key. The supervisor acts as a role model and coach for service standards and recovery, participates in performance improvement activities, and utilizes critical thinking for patient safety and experience, escalating issues as needed. They also support the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder.
