The RN Unit Supervisor Hospital, NICU role involves strong problem-solving abilities in complex situations and the ability to work within budget and productivity targets. This position participates in and supports staff selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, development, competency evaluation, and scheduling based on patient acuity. The supervisor supports and partners with the Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit goals. Key aspects include outstanding relationship-building skills, strong physician relationship skills, a patient-focused approach with a commitment to quality, safety, and customer service, and accountability for patient satisfaction action plans. The role also supports process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change, and requires knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements. Effective communication, mentoring staff, leading by example with professional behavior, and personal accountability are essential. The supervisor serves as a role model and coach for service standards and recovery, participates in performance improvement activities, and utilizes critical thinking for patient safety and experience, escalating issues as needed. Support for the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder is also a responsibility.
