About The Position

The RN Unit Manager is responsible for the clinical nursing oversight of the unit, which includes 32 long-term NeuroCare beds, over a 24-hour period in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisors. This role works in conjunction with Neuro Unit direct care staff and the Program Director to implement care plan changes as needed relative to each resident’s disease process and subsequent declines. The Unit Manager also completes quarterly, annual, and significant change nursing MDS assessments, monitors staff for proper implementation of nursing policies and procedures, and identifies areas needing training. They assist with in-person assessments of potential Neuro Unit residents, provide input for nursing staff probationary performance evaluations, and regularly inspect the unit for compliance with standards. Additionally, the Unit Manager assists with contacting ancillary departments, provides clinical updates to resident families, attends care plan meetings, and ensures completion of Fall Risk Assessments and Braden Scales. They also complete trainings and ensure compliance with infection control standards, perform facility supervisory shift coverage as needed, and actively participate in various committees and meetings. The role requires performing duties according to ethical standards and adhering to the facility's corporate compliance plan, confidentiality statement, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved/accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience with at least two years of supervisory experience in the nursing field.
  • Previous experience with NeuroCare and/or Neurological Disease preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Regulations.
  • Ability to organize, plan and implement nursing service policies and procedures.
  • Displays an active interest in pursuing continuing education to keep knowledge/ skills current.
  • Knowledge of completion Minimum Data Set (MDS) preferred.
  • Demonstrates competency by completing an annual job specific skills checklist.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the clinical nursing oversight of the unit, 32 long-term NeuroCare beds, over 24hr. period in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisors.
  • Works in conjunction with Neuro Unit direct care staff and Program Director to implement care plan changes as needed relative to each resident’s disease process and subsequent declines as they occur.
  • Completes quarterly, annual and significant change nursing MDS assessments for all residents on the Neuro Care unit as scheduled by MDS coordinator.
  • Monitor Neuro Unit staff for proper implementation of departmental nursing policies and procedures and identify areas in need of training - communicating such needs and making appropriate employee referrals to Education and Training as needed.
  • Works in conjunction with Neuro Program Director to complete in-person assessments of potential Neuro Unit residents – as designated by Neuro Program Director.
  • Provides input for completion of nursing staff probationary performance evaluations.
  • Regularly inspects the unit to ensure compliance with federal, state and local standards.
  • Assists with contacting ancillary departments as needed when issues arise related to provision of services either directly or environmentally in need of attention.
  • Provides clinical updates to resident families inclusive of, but not limited to; falls, injuries, med changes, hospitalizations, clinical declines, acute change of condition.
  • Attends weekly care plan meetings for residents.
  • Ensures completion of Fall Risk Assessments and Braden Scales prior to review.
  • Completes trainings and ensures compliance with all infection control standards and procedures.
  • Responsible for facility supervisory shift coverage as deemed necessary by facility needs/D.O.N.
  • Actively participates in: Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee, Safety Committee, Leadership Meetings, Morning Report, Skin Care Meetings.
  • Performs duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility's corporate compliance plan and applicable governing laws.
  • Adheres to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees, as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Performs any other duties throughout facility to meet needs as assigned by the D.O.N.
