About The Position

This RN position supports orthopedic and sports medicine clinicians by managing patient calls, walk-ins, and post-visit concerns, helping guide patients to the appropriate subspeciality care. This includes referral management, walk-in services, and urgent needs. The role works closely with physicians, APPs, and clinic staff, offering exposure to multiple subspecialties such as trauma, surgical, and non-surgical care. The RN Triage answers patient inquiries over the telephone, assesses the severity of symptoms and medical needs using triage algorithms, and guides patients to the appropriate level of care. They also schedule patient appointments, document triage information in health record systems, and record patients' health conditions for follow-up care. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and developing triage protocols and ensuring patients' healthcare information is updated. The position may involve answering inquiries through various technologies and educating patients based on incoming calls.

Requirements

• Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
• Nurses performing nursing practice over the telephone require licensure in the states where the patients being served reside.
• Within first 30 days of employment, all requirements to obtain license needed for role is completed.
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
• Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.
• One year of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient's symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms.
• Guides the patient to the appropriate level of care; schedules patient appointments over the phone with appropriate healthcare providers/facilities/physicians.
• Documents information provided to patients during triage in health record systems; records patients health conditions for follow-up patient care.
• Maintains and develops triage protocols; ensures patients' healthcare information is updated on time.
• Educate patients based on calls that come in.
• Referral management, walk in services and urgent needs.
• Supports orthopedic and sports medicine clinicians by managing patient calls, walk-ins, and post-visit concerns.
• Helps guide patients to the appropriate subspeciality care.
