The Trauma ICU at Allegheny General Hospital is a 24-bed unit dedicated to providing the highest level of trauma care, holding a Level 1 Trauma Center designation. As Pennsylvania's first Trauma ICU, established in 1979, it has a history of pioneering trauma services. The unit manages critically ill patients with diverse traumatic injuries, including blunt and penetrating trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and multi-system trauma, as well as post-operative surgical patients requiring intensive care. This diverse patient population and varying acuity levels offer nurses a comprehensive and challenging experience, preparing them for critical care excellence. Allegheny General Hospital is a Level I Shock Trauma Center with 5 state-of-the-art ICUs and a state-of-the-art Cancer Center, comprising over 550 beds.
