About The Position

This role is for an RN Trauma Clinical Coordinator at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, within the Trauma specialty. The position is full-time, days, with a schedule of four 10-hour shifts and one weekend per month. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a relevant field
  • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before or within 30 days of starting
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required before or within 30 days of starting
  • Trauma Outcomes & Performance (TOPIC) certification within 1 year of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 30 days of hire OR Emergency Nrs Pediatric (ENPC) within 180 days of hire
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within 180 days of hire
  • Deep understanding of trauma care vocabulary and best practices
  • Substantial knowledge and proficiency in nursing and patient care protocols and procedures
  • Knowledge of legal rules, standards, and guidelines from certifying organizations and hospitals
  • Extensive medical term knowledge
  • Proficiency in medication management, understanding of physical and physiological drug effects, and potential adverse reactions
  • Commitment to medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Interpersonal skills for interaction with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrable critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Skillful in understanding, optimizing, and recording complex processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling, electronic medical documentation, and email navigation

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Trauma Manager and provide patient care.
  • Maintain high standards through data registry.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure excellent patient care and achieve program goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary trauma rounds alongside physicians to enhance patient care and identify quality issues.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff, and act as a liaison between patients and their families.
  • Oversee trauma care at all stages, noting complications, departures from care standards, mortalities, or specific hospital audit filters.
  • Use electronic health record system, transfer log, and activation log to find trauma patients.
  • Collect data for the Trauma Registry.
  • Conduct concurrent reviews of patient charts and adhere to departmental deadlines for review completion.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects and engage with the American College of Surgeons.
  • Identify hospital education needs and attend Trauma courses; opportunity to become an instructor.
  • Engage in regional trauma committee programs, such as the Regional Advisory Council and GETAC, as needed.
  • Assist the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Physicians by identifying, developing, and presenting research initiatives.
