About The Position

Provides critical and emergency care to sick or injured patients transported within UMMC facilities or to other designated facilities, such as tertiary facilities. The nurse evaluates, plans, administers, and documents patient care during transport; monitors patient condition and reactions to treatment; and provides physical and psychological comfort. The role supports adult transport and requires scheduling flexibility to ensure 24/7 transport-team coverage. The position is full-time, hourly, and non-exempt.

Requirements

• Two years of emergency and/or critical care RN experience.
• Valid RN license.
• ACLS certification for adult transport or PALS certification for pediatric transport.
• BLS certification.
• Knowledge of information and techniques used to diagnose and treat injuries and disease in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
• Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for emergency and critical care nursing during interfacility and scene transports.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm in emergency conditions.
• Ability to provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort to patients.
• Scheduling flexibility to ensure 24/7 coverage of the transport team.

Nice To Haves

• ABLS certification.
• Specialty certification such as CEN, CCRN, or CFRN.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates, plans, administers, and documents nursing care for patients during transport.
• Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients.
• Monitors patient condition during transport and monitors for adverse reactions to drugs or treatment.
• Precepts students and residents as needed.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are available and functional, and reports equipment failures.
• Acts professionally and promotes a positive image of UMMC by participating in community outreach programs.
• Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided during flight transport.
• Prepares and maintains applicable reports and documentation.
• Maintains scheduling flexibility to ensure 24/7 coverage of the transport team.
• Participates in program-related quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintains clinical and age-specific competencies.
