About The Position

The Throughput Registered Nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The Throughput Registered Nurse accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and collaborates with providers to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Uses critical thinking nursing assessment and screening skills to review patient’s medical information with the physician over the telephone to determine which service the patient should be admitted to and which level of care.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Five (5) years nursing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) OR Associates of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma, currently enrolled in a BSN program and BSN completed within 5 years of hire.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Use competent clinical practice and critical thinking skills to efficiently transfer patients to facility while maximizing efficient use of resources.
  • Possess the interpersonal skills to positively and effectively communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrate motivation and drive for continuous development of self.
  • Cooperatively interact with the health care team to support and contribute to the shared group goals.
  • Adequately acquire needed assessment information to facilitate appropriate and safe patient transfers from outside facilities.
  • Demonstrate ability to synthesize patient data into a relevant problem focus, identifying potential complications and necessary interventions specific for patient bed placement over telephone by identifying correct service for patient’s needs as well as correct bed placement assignment.
  • Implement appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrate appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.
  • In response to data indicating commonly occurring risks to patient health status, initiate actions to correct, reduce and/or prevent risk.
  • Use standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.
  • Base decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings. Seek assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous, timely manner. Screen and refer all incoming phone calls to ensure accurate and timely communications.
  • Use established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information.
  • Assume responsibility for the development of others.
  • Engage in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
  • Foster the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team. Facilitate incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
  • Function to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
  • Engage in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment.
  • Interact with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
