The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital (TOSH), UAMS Health’s surgical hospital is looking for passionate operating RN who are ready to join a team that’s redefining quality care. As individuals dedicated to ensuring the safety and quick recovery of our patients, nurses are integral members of a team dedicated to providing the best care for patients through collaboration, communication and patient safety. As part of the TOSH teams, operating room nurses define their practice through attention to nursing excellence and outstanding patient care, driven by their expertise, compassion and dedication to evidence-based practice, and operate at a higher level of practice. If you are an RN who has current Operating Room experience, we invite you to consider a career with The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS Health. The operating room registered nurse (OR RN) provides direct patient care throughout the perioperative process, including the preoperative, intraoperative, and immediate postoperative phases. This role requires the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for surgical patients while maintaining a safe and sterile environment. OR RN collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other perioperative team members to coordinate care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include conducting patient assessments and verifications, confirming the surgical site, preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and continuously monitoring the patient’s condition throughout surgery. Acting as a patient advocate, the OR RN ensures that safety standards are upheld and responds promptly to any changes in patient status. The role also involves effective communication with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to provide education on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and postoperative care instructions. Additional duties include documenting intraoperative care, managing surgical instruments and equipment, adhering to infection prevention protocols, facilitating smooth transitions to recovery staff, and participating in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
