About The Position

The RN Team Leader-SC is responsible for strong problem-solving in complex situations, working within budget and productivity targets, and supporting staff selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, competency evaluation, and scheduling based on patient acuity. This role supports and partners with the Manager and Clinical Leader to ensure staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit goals. The position requires outstanding relationship-building skills, including strong physician relationships, and a patient-focused approach with a commitment to high quality, safety, and customer service. The RN Team Leader is accountable for achieving patient satisfaction targets (PressGaney and HCAHPS) and supporting process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change. Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements is necessary. Effective and persuasive communication, participation in hospital and department committees, and demonstrated ability in developing and mentoring staff are key. The role involves leading by example with professional behavior, personal and professional accountability, and a passion for nursing. The RN Team Leader serves as a role model and coach for Critical Moments of Service Standards and service recovery, participates in performance improvement activities, and utilizes critical thinking for patient safety and experience, escalating issues as appropriate. The role also supports the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder for RNs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • BSN or upon hire BSN completion agreement for enrollment in an accredited BSN Completion Program.
  • May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify per department guidelines.
  • If hired prior to 1-1-14 in Winnebago County and prior to 9-1-14 in Rock, Walworth and McHenry Counties an ADN only is required.
  • Licensed as an RN in the State of practice.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
  • Other certifications per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, NALS.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Genuine concern for people.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adept listener with the ability to interpret concerns.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • May include color blind test--per department guidelines.
