This position is 36 hours per week with 12-hour shifts (11a-11:30p x 3) and is flexible with rotating weekends and holidays. The Team Leader role begins with the basis of a charge nurse description and includes assessing the physical, mental, and psychological status of patients using age-appropriate knowledge within the ED specialty. The role involves planning, evaluating, and supervising the care of all patients within the ED and others as assigned, and working collaboratively with other disciplines to provide excellent patient service. The Team Leader will coordinate and participate in educational programs, in-services, and performance improvement activities to enhance technical skills. Continued learning and its application to practice are essential. Providing patient and family education and updates is also a key responsibility, along with performing real-time service recovery. The work practice should reflect the hospital's philosophy, purpose, and policies, based on evidence-based best practices and ENA standards. Collaboration with Emergency Department physicians, specialists, inpatient nursing units, admitting, and supervisors is crucial for facilitating patient flow. The Team Leader will mentor and report on the progress of new hires with the UBE and participate in staff performance assessments in collaboration with the Director. Regulatory readiness, including checking crash carts, refrigerators, ensuring equipment does not block egress or fire extinguishers, and completing survey readiness checklists, is vital. Maintaining a list of materials and equipment, updating staff on repairs, and checking supply inventory for expiration dates at least twice a year are also required. The role ensures inventory is performed on all specialty carts and in the trauma room. The Team Leader ensures calls to NEOB are made within 60 minutes and all live documentation is complete by performing live audits of Moderate sedation, STEMI, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Patient Expirations. EMTALA compliance, ensuring all transfer paperwork/processes are complete, is also a responsibility. A 50% attendance rate at weekly team leader meetings is expected. The Team Leader will serve as co-chair of a workgroup to launch and implement a new initiative yearly for process improvement within the specialty area.
