About The Position

The Staff Nurse is responsible for implementing the philosophies, objectives, standards of care, and policies and procedures of the Nursing Division under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care and functioning as a charge nurse according to the Nurse Manager's expectation for an assigned shift. The Surgical Care Unit (SCU) is a 26-bed medical/surgical unit staffed with LPNs, RNs, and PCTs who provide safe and compassionate care for a variety of surgical patients. These patients include urology patients (cystoscopies, prostatectomies, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), nephrectomies, etc.), general surgical patients (hernia repair; incision and drainage or debridement of abscesses or infections; colon resections, ostomy placements and drain placements; laparoscopic procedures like cholecystectomies and appendectomies), and vascular patients (amputations of limbs and revascularization of limbs such as bypasses). The unit also handles wound vacuums and extensive wound care. SCU is a fast-paced unit that will assist with building great critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an NCBON approved School of Nursing and/or graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current RN license with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or Compact License recognized by the North Carolina State Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication.
  • Recognize the importance of being a professional role model for others.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit(s).
  • Maintain current AHA BLS certification.
