About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor manages bed requests, maintaining primary responsibility for facilitating patient progression throughout the continuum of care and ensuring efficient and cost-effective placement of all patients into the appropriate bed. The Nursing Supervisor works directly with the medical directors, attendings, nurses and ancillary support services; maintains awareness for unit staffing and has the authority to make adjustments to inpatient bed assignments and staffing allocations 24/7 to optimize throughput; and may provide administrative oversight for patient, physician and nursing concerns and must exhibit critical leadership behaviors at all times, including effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN or higher degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing).
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and independent decision making.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO / AHCA standards and the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
  • Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Competent conflict resolution and negotiation techniques.
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS from the American Heart Association (required for ICU, Emergency Department, and Specialty areas).
  • Professional certification within two years of hire or transfer (required for all new hires or transfers as of January 1, 2015).
  • 1-2 years of management or demonstrated leadership experience.
  • 3-5 years of Medical Surgical clinical experience.

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing or related field.
