About The Position

The RN supervisor coordinates nursing operations and nursing personnel with the Addiction Recovery Department. The RN supervisor provides nursing services for patients and nursing leadership in coordination with Program Manager for unit nurses. The RN supervisor provides clinical expertise and program management; serves as a liaison and resource to staff members as well as provides direct patient care. The RN supervisor is responsible for providing administrative RN duties for the ARC; providing leadership through collaboration with the ARC team; and maintaining standards or professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. This position will participate in departmental quality improvement activities and provide input on standards of care to maintain quality patient outcomes. This position will maintain the clinical competencies required to provide direct patient care. This position supports the delivery of Addiction and Behavioral Health services to Carle customers by the successful and timely accomplishment of these duties.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • National Nursing Certification - Varies
  • Bachelor's Degree: Nursing (Required)
  • Nursing, 2+ years
  • Basic reading, writing and oral skills
  • Demonstrates clinical leadership, good communication skills, and the ability to multi-task.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accept and institute change.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as function as part of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain confidential information.

  • Demonstrates competency with working in mental health, addiction medicine populations.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Ability to troubleshoot minor problems within a Windows OS, operates within a network environment, uses spreadsheet, database, word processing and internet applications proficiently.
  • Learns new applications without difficulty and is able to aid others in immediate work area with computer questions

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative duties and supervision for the nurses on the addiction unit.
  • Coordinates daily nursing and staffing activities of department. Monitoring and oversight of daily nursing workflow. This will include performing staff nursing duties as needed to ensure adequate staffing and delivery of safe patient care.
  • Participation in all nursing and organizational leadership programs, meetings and initiatives. Facilitates nursing meetings and attends daily staffing meetings to provide consistent nursing representation and feedback.
  • Participates in hiring/interview panels for nurses and demonstrates good judgment in interview process.
  • Development and implementation of departmental and organizational policies/procedures and initiatives. Maintains nursing policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally within department and throughout the organization.
  • Monitoring of all quality initiatives and process improvement activities in the department. Coordinate quality outcome metrics and data to support quality activities. Develops, implements and participates in Quality Improvement initiatives and performs quality audits as directed/needed.
  • Facilitates and Participates in Root-Cause Analysis process for ARC.
  • Role modeling through the prioritization of activities, the setting and attaining of professional, personal, and processional goals.
  • Provides on call coverage 24/7, 365 days per year. Compensation for on-call is reflected in this positions salary. Provides unit RN coverage in the event that all other options are exhausted and coverage cannot be obtained.
  • Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Monitoring and oversight of ordering of department supplies, equipment, and medication.
  • Other administrative nursing duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Provides education to others.
  • Provides ARC nursing representation in committees within and out of department.
  • Provides education and training to nursing staff, including supervision of all nurses at a minimum of monthly.
  • Provides education and training to agency nursing and nursing interns.
  • Participates and attends all trainings and education.
  • Continues to professionally develop own leadership skills and abilities.
  • Ensures competencies are up to date for all nursing staff and notifies nurses of educational opportunities.
  • Provides quality patient care to patients.
  • Provides unit coverage when needed.
  • Acts at the liaison for our unit and the patient’s primary care and other providers.
  • Scheduled follow up appointment for patients on the unit as directed/needed.
  • Performs weekly vital signs on all patients on the unit as directed/needed.
  • Provides coverage of the Addiction Medicine Clinic when needed.
  • Anticipates the needs of the unit nurse and of patients.
  • Demonstrates quality and accurate nursing judgement.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness in resolving issues or inquiries, solution focused behavior.
