Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current New York State RN licensure
  • PRI and MDS certification required
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Two years experience in an acute care and LTC preferred
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse in acute or long term care is desired
  • Involves intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Required to lift, move, position, and transfer/transport equipment and residents.
  • Maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • May be exposed to contagious disease or infection.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Certification in Gerontological nursing is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out facility policies and models time management, conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, accountability, and responsibility.
  • Possesses clinical assessment skills and clinical judgment, responds to emergency situations, and acts as a resource for staff.
  • Maintains and enhances the self-esteem of others through listening, empathy, and clear communication, answering inquiries accurately and timely.
  • Writes reports, memos, and evaluations clearly, concisely, and timely, utilizing computer for written communication.
  • Gives clear directions, explains decisions, solicits staff input, and can be depended upon to complete assigned projects.
  • Strives to improve own competence through skill development and staying abreast of nursing trends and healthcare developments.
  • Responsible for the security of employees and residents on the assigned shift and acts in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Completes the initial resident profile and updates as necessary according to the care plan.
  • Implements care and services that recognize age and diversity-specific needs and issues of customers and residents served.
  • Maintains an ongoing rapport with family members or designee.
  • Receives reports on residents from the staff nurse and conveys pertinent resident information to the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) as indicated.
  • Reviews resident conditions with the Clinical Care Coordinator and communicates pertinent information to physicians, and calls family regarding condition changes.
  • Works with the Unit Coordinator on referrals to clinics and other physicians as needed.
  • Participates in the orientation of new employees.
  • Collects quality review studies and participates in the Quality Assurance program.
  • Handles all situations with professionalism, tactfulness, politeness, and courtesy to residents, visitors, and other employees.
  • Regularly confers with Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Clinical Care Coordinator.
  • Participates in meetings and committees as requested.
  • Consistently works to maintain staff morale and promotes teamwork, interacting with staff from other disciplines and areas in a caring and professional manner.
  • Interprets the nursing care plan to nursing staff as assigned.
  • Delegates responsibility to nursing personnel for the direct nursing care of specific residents during each shift of duty.
  • Assists in scheduling duties as needed.
  • Assists the units with emergent situations and follows through with all new orders.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the total nursing activities on his/her shift.
  • Evaluates and performs nursing care per physician's orders and in compliance with facility policy and procedure plans.
  • Assists with medication pass and treatments as needed.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to residents commensurate with their level of understanding.
  • Administers treatments, applies various apparatus, and uses equipment safely, including lifting, positioning, transferring, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics and available equipment.
  • Assists the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Utilizes sound nursing judgment in emergency situations, demonstrates nursing technique and procedures, and assists and supervises non-professional personnel in delivering resident care.
  • Respects resident's rights as written in the Taylor Health Center Resident Rights and Responsibilities Manual.
  • Follows infection control in accordance with all applicable facility policies.
  • Performs documentation in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Clinical Care Coordinator to record resident's needs and problems on the NCP and revises as appropriate through evaluation of resident's response to nursing care.
  • Provides reports on incidents and accidents of both residents and employees and follows through with notification to appropriate personnel, implementing any changes to POC and documenting accordingly.
  • Practices in accordance with the limits of the New York State Nurse Practice Act, facility policies and procedures, and nursing standards of care.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards work assignments, residents, and co-workers.
  • Completes annual competencies per job description in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned or requested by the Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates personal and interpersonal qualities that support the mission statement and philosophies of Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital and Arnot Health.
  • Has a working knowledge of Corporate Compliance regulations and promptly reports any potential Corporate Compliance violations to the Corporate Compliance Officer.
  • Is familiar with and demonstrates Continuous Quality Improvement principles and participates in the process as appropriate, focusing on meeting customer service needs.
  • Must possess the highest ethical standard with respect to discretion and regard for confidential information.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.
  • Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
  • Individuals may be required to work beyond hours normally scheduled to provide the highest quality care to patients and residents.
  • Work schedules may be subject to change based on the needs of the department.
