This is a full-time, day shift position with a scheduled weekly hour of 40. The role involves supervising nursing home staff and nursing activities, including resident care and record-keeping. The supervisor assists in managing the nursing staff assigned to a particular shift within the nursing home and takes action regarding the provision of resources within the context of shifts or designated time frames. The position also involves assigning residents to available nursing staff, considering the resident's condition and the employee's skill level. The role requires monitoring resident care areas and other nursing home facilities for cleanliness and readiness. The supervisor may fill in for clinical support staff when staffing gaps exist and, depending on staffing needs, may serve as a point of contact for technical training and troubleshooting for staff. The position is responsible for utilizing and ensuring staff follow the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to clients. Collaboration with other inter-professional colleagues, including providers, is essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating care. This includes personal care management, medication administration, care planning, scheduling physician visits, setting up appointments, and working with clients, families, home health services, county, and state offices to ensure client needs are met. The role also assists and supports human resources administrative processing and procedures with staff management, may assist with providing feedback in the collection and preparation of required budget information, and assists in conducting new staff training and orientation regarding operating rules and working standards. Knowledge of clinical practices, strategic planning, administrative, and financial principles, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, are essential. The supervisor must recognize problems and recommend solutions, react calmly and effectively in emergencies, and interpret, adapt, and supply guidelines and procedures. Accountability includes following up with risk management and training of clinical staff as needed. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment is required. The role participates in reviewing results of clinical performance assessments and recommends process improvements, and implements established performance improvement policies and trains employees on these policies. The supervisor functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, recognizing the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
