About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced RN Supervisor A to join their healthcare leadership team at Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse
  • Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to inmates at DCI, ensuring adherence to established clinical protocols, infection-control standards, and correctional healthcare policies while promoting patient safety and well-being.
  • Receive, interpret, and implement physicians’ orders, coordinating with medical staff to ensure timely and accurate execution of treatment plans, medication administration, and follow-up care.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds to assess physical and behavioral health, monitor changes in condition, evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing care provided, and ensure all assessments, interventions, and observations are thoroughly documented in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage, organize, and assign nursing duties for the shift, providing direction and support to nursing staff, prioritizing workload based on patient acuity, and ensuring adequate coverage to maintain efficient clinical operations.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor, offering guidance to nursing personnel, assisting with problem-solving, and promoting professional development and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with security procedures, collaborating with custody staff to maintain a safe environment while delivering patient care within a secure correctional setting.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts, providing leadership during medical emergencies, coordinating staff actions, and ensuring proper documentation and follow-up.
