Requirements

  • One-year registered nursing experience or completion of either the Legacy Health RN Residency program or a nursing program that is equivalent in content, curriculum and duration.
  • Additional clinical experience requirements may vary dependent upon the specific department in which the position is utilized.
  • Thorough knowledge of care and skill in placement of peripheral IV catheters; thorough knowledge of care of central IV access devices and PICC competency as determined by Nurse Manager or designee.
  • Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
  • Applicable state RN license required; other state of practice RN license required within six months of hire.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred.
  • Vascular access experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse.
  • The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer.
  • The Vascular Access Nurse provides consultation for providers and nurses for the most appropriate vascular access device based on patient assessment and the treatment plan.
  • Places vascular access devices such as: peripheral intravenous catheters (PIV), Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), Midline catheters and Intra-osseous catheters.
  • Accesses and de-accesses implanted ports.
  • Assesses and manages central venous access devices including routine dressing changes, cap changes and intervenes to maintain patency of central venous access devices.
  • Serves as a resource for the health care team in the intravenous access, placement, management, and patient/family education for care and maintenance.
  • Service area is both inpatient and outpatient.
