About The Position

The RN Staff Nurse I in Surgery plays a vital role within a fast-paced, highly specialized outpatient clinic, supporting the care of both adult and pediatric patients undergoing advanced reconstructive, cosmetic, and limb salvage procedures. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside expert surgeons and APPs while contributing to a collaborative, high-volume clinical environment. In this role, the nurse assists with the coordination and delivery of patient care, ensuring efficient clinic flow while providing direct patient support throughout the surgical journey. The clinical setting is dynamic, with some locations seeing up to 130 patients per day, offering exposure to a wide variety of complex and rewarding cases. This is an outpatient-only role with no inpatient responsibilities. The nurse will care for a diverse patient population across specialties including: Head-to-toe reconstruction, Cosmetic procedures, Pediatric facial and nerve injuries, and Breast reconstruction and limb salvage. The role may involve travel between multiple clinic locations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree - Nursing
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Registered Nurse - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.
  • Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
  • Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
  • Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
  • Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
