About The Position

This position works under the general supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider, and/or nursing leadership to provide nursing services in care and treatment of patients. The shift is a 4 Day/10 Hour Shift from 9:00 am - 7:30 pm.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program either by a governmental authority, nursing board, or by a licensing authority that has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1).
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • (ACLS) ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 1 year experience in an acute care setting
  • (NLC) NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT-BNE Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license, BSN
  • Professional certification in a nursing organization

Responsibilities

  • Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age-specific criteria.
  • Anticipates patient and/or patient's family needs and expectations to develop an appropriate plan of care, utilizing critical thinking and maintaining unit competencies.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions, completes accurate and timely documentation, and coordinates the interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Confers with healthcare team members collaboratively, sharing information and observations to advocate for optimal patient care.
  • Prioritizes nursing interventions, promptly identifies changes in condition, reports changes, and takes follow-up action.
  • Actively involves the patient in the plan of care and keeps the patient, family, and/or caregiver informed.
  • Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care accordingly, documenting accurately and timely.
  • Adheres to hospital and Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice, incorporating ANA standards and the Professional Practice Model 'Relationship Based Care' using the 'PACE' Delivery System.
  • Provides appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patients, families, significant others, and caregivers, assessing competence and demonstrating effective communication.
  • Welcomes and orients patients, families, significant others, and caregivers to the unit, encouraging participation in care.
  • Reviews personalized patient plan of care with patient/family every shift, updates white boards, and sets daily goals with patient input.
  • Explains special diets, tests, procedures, and medications in easily understood language.
  • Makes hourly rounds on patients and communicates return times.
  • Advocates for resources and support to enhance patient safety and unit/hospital initiatives.
  • Participates in evaluating data for unit/department budget formulation and implementation.
  • Performs Peer Evaluation to provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Holds co-workers accountable for their behavior and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Actively intervenes when patient safety is at risk.
  • Accountable for patient care and quality/safety initiatives (e.g., patient safety, patient satisfaction, core measures, infection control).
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and practice improvement teams.
  • Shares professional and technical information with colleagues and students, offering self as a resource (e.g., preceptor, charge, mentor, unit expert).
  • Participates in meetings and committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach.
  • Performs duties that may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records; or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
