About The Position

The RN Shift Supervisor (Nights) is responsible for overseeing nursing operations during the night shift at the Crisis Center. This role involves completing client admissions, monitoring client status, administering medications, providing education, supervising unit flow, and ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures. The position requires strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, nursing care, behavior management, crisis intervention, and leadership skills. The supervisor must also maintain effective communication with management and healthcare providers, ensure client safety, and uphold ethical standards.

Requirements

Current/active RN license to practice in the state of Alabama and in good standing with the ABN.
Ability to supervise other nurses.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care.
Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license and safe driving record.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Knowledgeable of and abide by HIPAA regulations.
Physical presence onsite is essential.
Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a mental health setting.
Familiarity with psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the adult population.

Responsibilities

Complete the admission process for clients, including nursing assessments, medication lists, EMR/MARs, and noting physician's orders.
Complete a nursing assessment form on admission.
Monitor the medical, physical, mental, and behavioral status of clients.
Review all referral and psychiatric consults, and update EMR and MAR.
Follow up on lab and medical tests.
Transcribe/post all medication orders to the EMR/MAR.
Provide medication education to staff, including uses and potential side effects.
Supervise the flow and processes of the Triage, Temp Obs, and Ext Obs units, taking responsibility for all processes and staffing patterns while on shift.
Communicate effectively with the Nurse Manager, CRNP, and physician regarding the client's physical and mental condition.
Monitor clients for potential side effects of medications and report findings.
Administer medications/treatments, observing the Six Rights of Medication Administration.
Perform medical monitoring of clients according to Crisis Center protocols.
Provide observation of clients in assigned areas and report any medical or psychiatric issues.
Provide emergency care as needed (CPR, PRN medications).
Recognize the elements of a crisis state and de-escalate or resolve the situation.
Perform on-call responsibilities as assigned.
Adhere to a professional code of ethics.
Ensure that all safety, fire prevention, and other procedures are followed by clients.
Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Indian Rivers Behavioral Health (IRBH) policies and procedures.
Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards.
Ensure that a good driving record is maintained, particularly in transporting clients or for center-related business.
Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs.
Maintain the confidential nature of all client and Organization related activities.
Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
Comply with all standards related to safety and health.
Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
