About The Position

As our RN Sexual Assault Examiner, you will assume responsibility for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet their needs, while performing forensic examinations for sexual assault cases. Every day you will promote optimal patient health, well-being, and safety through the nursing process, diligently perform forensic examinations to collect and preserve evidence, and provide follow-up care. You will also be available to participate in the judicial process, including providing expert testimony and witnessing. To be successful in this role, you will be a Registered Nurse with specialized forensic examination skills, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. You will excel in evidence collection, compassionate patient care for sexual assault survivors, and ethical engagement with the judicial process.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree (ADN) required
  • Three (3) years relevant healthcare experience
  • RN License; Current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
  • BLS (AHA) required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree (BSN) preferred
  • Two (2) years experience in acute care setting or outpatient women's health preferred
  • Belongs to International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), which is the oversight organization for SANE training.
  • Participates in continuing education of at least 20 CEUs from forensic nursing every 2 years.
  • Background in nursing and data management
  • Experience with ER, ICU, or acute care of stroke
  • Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete forensic examination and collection of evidence.
  • Responds to page within 10 minutes and arrives within 60 minutes of call.
  • Collaborates with members of SART to ensure appropriate followup care.
  • Accurately documents all findings of examination.
  • Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient records.
  • Assesses patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records and clinical data.
  • Evaluates patient’s response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcome.
  • Develops and implements patient plan of care and observes outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
