The RN, School Nurse provides direct care to students in a school setting. The care includes treating injuries, acute illness, chronic disease management and long-term management for students with special health care needs. This role acts as a liaison between school personnel, family, health care professionals and the community through communication with parents/guardians of students, physicians, advanced practice providers and appropriate school personnel. The nurse will screen for health conditions and health problems as required and is responsible for health care education of students, parents, teachers, and other school personnel. This is a leadership role that involves leading health policies and programs, health promotion and protections, chronic disease management, and coordination of school health programs, school wellness policies, mental health protection and intervention.
