About The Position

This role is in a fast-paced Same Day Surgery department where the nurse is the go-to voice for patient care before, during, and after surgery. The position requires expert nursing skills, critical thinking, action, and timely communication. The nurse acts as a bridge between patients, doctors, families, and all care touchpoints. The role involves preparing and educating patients for home recovery, embracing the role of caregiver and teacher. The goal is to make a positive impact during the patient's short surgical journey.

Requirements

• Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
• 2 years RN flex experience

• BSN
• 1-year related experience

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care before and after surgery, review patient history, set-up IVs, and monitor vital signs.
• Educate and prepare patients and their families on home care after discharge.
• Perform required clinical documentation and pre- and post-operative assessments.
• Monitor patient after surgery for pain and/or complications and the surgery site for healing or infection following Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
• Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required.
• Collaborate to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care or when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
• Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
• Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
• Initiate patient and family education on the operation and post-operation care as required.
