About The Position

This is professional nurse work at the second-line supervisory level in a County nursing care facility. Positions in this class supervise first-line professional and technical nursing and resident care personnel on more than one unit on an assigned shift. Requirements

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current & Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in PA
  • Three to five years of professional nursing experience, one year of which shall have been at the first-line supervisory level
  • Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided knowledge, skills and abilities cited above

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the residents' incident and accident prevention program
  • Chair the interdisciplinary meetings for psych review and fall prevention
  • Communicates reportable incidents to the appropriate administrative department and regulatory agencies
  • Ensures that follow-up corrective measures are reported to the appropriate staff and that corrective actions are implemented
  • Analyzes data collected from incident reports to detect trends; identifies potential or actual risk situations
  • Conducts routine nursing environmental rounds and makes recommendations for corrections
  • Assesses staffing patterns and assigns nursing staff to work units
  • Consults Unit Managers/Charge Nurses regarding residents' medical and social status, and problems encountered in providing resident care
  • Assesses overall nursing staff strengths and/or weaknesses in providing such care
  • Answers question and otherwise advises and assists staff in providing care, especially more difficult situations
  • Makes daily unit rounds with Unit Managers/Charge Nurses to observe quality of care
  • Responsible for the immediate supervision of assigned Unit Managers/Lead Nurses and assists them in carrying out their responsibilities in the management of the nursing unit/nursing care
  • Assists, instructs, and offers suggestions to Unit Managers/Lead Nurses on dealing with employee, resident and resident families concerns
  • Evaluates work performance of Unit Managers/Lead Nurses/Unit Nurses/Unit Staff; assists Unit Managers/Lead Nurses in unit staff performance evaluations
  • Evaluates the residents' conditions; when necessary, acts as a liaison between the Unit Manager/Lead/Unit Nurse and the on-call physician, and ensures that new orders are carried out
  • Monitors and evaluates situations to ascertain the need for additional services
  • Interdisciplinary approach to solve challenging resident/family issues and to determine appropriate unit replacement of residents
  • Works with ancillary departments to meet resident needs and facility goals
  • Performs related work as required
