About The Position

The RN Risk Manager reviews patient concerns and grievances, analyzes medical records, collaborates with clinical staff, and drafts responses to patients or requestors as needed. Advises faculty, residents, students, and employees on patient communications, risk management, potential liability, and administrative policies; supports quality review activities. Prepares and reviews medical records for legal evaluation, coordinates expert reviews, and assists with discovery responses and document collection. Assists with the preparation of Professional Liability Committee agendas and materials and participates in committee meetings. Coordinates resolution of patient concerns with affiliated institutions and healthcare partners. Supports risk management education and presentations for faculty, residents, and employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates are strongly advised to include a cover letter with submission of application.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 4 years of experience to include at least 2 years of clinical nursing experience
• (RN) REGISTERED NURSE By Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

• 2 years Experience in risk management, quality assurance, case management or related health care management field, or in legal field.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and analyzes medical records to investigate patient concerns of care and grievances; obtains input from clinical providers and clinical supervisors; drafts administrative response to patients. As needed, communicates directly with patients (or other requestor if applicable).
• Assists faculty, residents, students, and employees with questions and problems concerning patient communications, risk management, potential liability and direction provided by administrative policies. Provides support for quality review processes.
• Reviews and prepares medical records for legal review; evaluates cases for legal merit and coordinates expert reviews; assists with discovery responses and location of requested documentation.
• Prepares, or assists in preparing, Professional Liability Committee agendas and materials; participates in Professional Liability Committee meetings.
• Coordinates management of patient concerns with counterparts at affiliated institutions.
• Assists with risk management presentations to faculty, residents, and employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
