About The Position

Summit Pacific Medical Center is a public hospital district operating a Critical Access Hospital with a Level IV trauma designation, three rural healthcare clinics, and a seven-day-a-week urgent care clinic. The RN Resident will provide general nursing care under the supervision of the Manager of Nursing Services. This role utilizes initiative and independent judgment with specific knowledge of general nursing practice principles. The RN Resident will function in compliance with the Washington State Nurse Practice Act and Summit Pacific Medical Center's policies and procedures. The SPMC Nurse Residency Program, utilizing the Iowa ONRP, includes online modules covering essential competencies for new graduate nurses such as communication, time management, critical thinking, and patient safety. Following module completion, residents participate in self-paced learning and reflective journaling, leading to monthly live discussions to apply strategies for integrating competencies into practice. The program culminates in a residency project and has a 1-year commitment.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current and unrestricted Washington State Nursing license required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS required.
  • ACLS, PALS (or ENPC), TNCC certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of nursing procedures and functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
  • Respects patient’s right to privacy, protects confidential information following HIPAA standards and maintains accountability for patient safety.
  • Knowledge of the organization, functions and activities of the nursing unit.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned work in coordination with other activities on the unit.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Ability to communicate and document information accurately and legibly.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medication and treatments in accordance with education, experience, and approved nursing techniques, in partnership with an IONRP/SPMC RN Preceptor.
  • Provides accurate and timely information to physicians and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and excellence of care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process for patient assessment, care, and documentation.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies, and assists providers with patient treatment and examination.
  • Carries out physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Accurately documents patient care and treatments, including medications and vital signs.
  • Develops and documents a patient-specific care plan within 24 hours of admission for inpatients.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through appropriate charging of supplies and pharmacy items.
  • Provides direct patient care according to established standards of care.
  • Obtains appropriate consents and recognizes the legal implications of patient care.
  • Practices within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act at all times.
  • Fosters teamwork by participating in the orientation of new personnel, nursing staff meetings, and in-service trainings.
  • Completes special projects and other related assignments as needed.
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment by asking clarifying questions and providing constructive input professionally.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Consistently provides a level of service that meets or exceeds SP standards to create positive experiences for patients, customers, and co-workers.
  • Pursues opportunities for ongoing learning and development to increase mastery of assigned functions and develop new skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and successfully performs advanced job duties.
