The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. This role specifically focuses on providing care to patients within the Rehab unit, coordinating nursing care activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to facilitate achievement of overall patient goals. The RN will share information about disease processes underlying disabilities, teach nursing techniques to help patients and families develop self-care skills, participate in Rehab rounds and team meetings, reinforce teaching done by therapy, provide resource materials, and offer ongoing patient education. Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for people with physical disability and chronic illness.
