Registered Nurse position in the 13-bed ICU at Longmont United Hospital. The average census is six patients. Nurses provide care at a 1:2 ratio for ICU patients and a 1:3 ratio for IMC/general patients. The unit cares for patients with respiratory failure, alcohol withdrawal, neurosurgical conditions, stroke, myocardial infarction, and chronic disease. Nurses manage arterial lines, ventilators, and titratable drips and care for critically ill patients. RNs monitor their own telemetry and are responsible for daily strips. Travelers should be able to provide charge nurse relief; the charge RN takes a 1–2 patient assignment. The hospital has a hospitalist in-house 24 hours a day and an intensivist on call 24 hours, with the intensivist in-house during the day. Respiratory therapists are in the ICU 24/7. The unit has no nurse aides. Equipment and respiratory support include CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators. Scheduling may include self-scheduling and block scheduling, depending on unit needs; the hospital tries to accommodate nurses’ scheduling needs. Full- and part-time employees are expected to self-schedule at least six weekend shifts per six-week schedule, consistent with department needs and staffing plans. Holiday work is required. Call or standby requirements and floating are determined by the nurse manager; if needed, nurses may float within Zone 3. Scrubs are navy blue. Unit-specific orientation date and location are assigned during orientation week. Clinicians must be in state during orientation week, even if their first-day modules are completed remotely. Candidates must submit a driver's license and be within a 60-mile radius. The clinical team interviews candidates and, if selected, extends an offer on behalf of the facility. The posting describes this as a small community hospital with strong teamwork and a solid core staff.
