About The Position

Akron General’s Rapid Observation Unit is part of the Emergency Department (ED) and provides treatment and evaluation to patients while determining if the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. You must work 48 hours within a six week period.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience
  • Internal applicants: less than two years of experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period considered with the Chief Nursing Officer approval for internal applicants OR military RN experience
  • Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Cardiac Telemetry experience
  • Neuro experience with an NIH certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
