About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in an eighteen-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU), an intermediate-care unit providing specialized medical and nursing care. The unit serves patients with diagnoses including stroke, transient ischemic attack, seizure, syncope, dizziness, encephalopathy, renal failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, and post-operative neurosurgical conditions. The nurse collaborates with nursing staff and leaders, interdisciplinary team members, and physician partners while delivering care using current technology and equipment. The unit is described as fast-paced and continually evolving. The nurse assesses patients, develops and implements individualized plans of care, provides nursing interventions, and continually evaluates and modifies care as needed. The role also involves accurate documentation, attention to patient and employee safety, professional communication and collaboration, ongoing learning, and meeting departmental competencies. For identified stroke and TIA patients, the nurse ensures required DNV measures are addressed and documented. Meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and whiteboards support communication with patients and families. The nurse closely monitors post-operative neurosurgical patients.
