About The Position

Promotes professional development through the application of adult learning principles. Maintains responsibility for identifying, prioritizing and evaluating the educational and professional development needs of their clinical area; develops and delivers clinical educational programs, including specialty training, new graduate/hire training, and continuing education for staff. Manages nursing competence and professional development programs. Conducts ongoing assessments of proficiencies for staff and provides feedback and creates formal action plans.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
  • Nursing experience: Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN): Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, evaluates and manages professional development programs based on principles of adult learning that fosters development of competence in the nursing staff.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of quality/effectiveness of educational activities to ensure they maintain/enhance professional development.
  • Formulates/coordinates education plans for orientation of new staff, initial and ongoing competency validation, education to address patient population-specific care and development of bedside leaders.
  • Responds to changes in nursing practice/nursing theory and develops programs to support changes.
  • Conducts research into professional and community practice standards and clinical innovations for improved patient care.
  • Performs educational needs appraisal of individual departments, including assessment of needs.
  • Formulates education plan and implements individualized educational strategies.
  • Evaluates knowledge and practice of employees.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary committees to integrate educational activities into clinical care including creating hospital policy, planning curriculum and teaching techniques, implementing and evaluating education.
  • Investigates clinical practice concerns as they arise and evaluates clinical risk and develops corrective action plan.
  • Escalates patient safety concerns, as needed.
  • Supervises development of new graduates/hires and recommends whether the new employee meets the organizational expectations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
